Bass Lake Bogwalk Challenge | BEFORE

CHALLENGE #1

> remove old posts
& 460' of old dec

"We took on the bogwalk because challenge keeps you on your cutting edge."

The 460-foot long dock traversed bogs, sandbars, swamp, and ended in a traditional lake with a dock complete with swimmers' platform and stairs for the dog to climb up after a swim.

Bass Lake Bogwalk | DURING REBUILD

CHALLENGE #2

build enduring supports
> for mud-bottom bog

30-foot posts driven deep

> for floating dock

21-foot posts (weighing 200 pounds each) that kept the floating portion aligned with the fixed portion

> on the sandbar

10-foot posts that can winter-over

> and in the lake

required removable posts to accomodate winter lake-freeze (working as one with the non-removable bogwalk)

Floating Dock Aligned | DURING REBUILD

CHALLENGE #3

> keep floating dock aligned with stationary portions of dock

drive 21' posts into soft bottom (upon which floating dock could rise and fall)

all the while assuring they remained uncompromisingly straight (to ensure not only a level dock but the ability for the floating dock to move freely up and down)

do all this while standing on the floating dock

total number of screws? 12,000

refurbished old hardware when possible (cost saving measure)

> solution?

build a custom, post-driving tripod system

use team members as counter weights that move toward the center as the posts are sent deeper
